If you are a country music fan, the Marton Country Music Festival is a must-see event of the summer. The festival will be taking place from the 19th to the 21st of January at the Sir James Wilson park in Marton, and this year is set to be the best to date. The festival was created by a group of like minded people who had a vision for a small gathering of country music enthusiasts to share a weekend together in music and laughter. Currently in it's 13th year, the festival has grown from strength to strength and is now one of the most anticipated Country events around.
The festival will once again feature a stellar line-up of national and international artists, with Joni Harms (USA), Marian Burns, Dennis Marsh and Brendan Dugan headlining. A winner of mulitple Academy of Western Artists awards, Joni Harms is no stranger to success. She has been priased for her pure country voice, and has even performed in New York's famed Carnegie Hall.
Marian Burns is one of New Zealand's most iconic entertainers, having shared the stage with the likes of Ricky Skaggs and the Topp Twins. She has played to audiences numbering over 100,000 at Coca Cola's Christmas in the Park.
The easy-listening voice and cheeky giggle of Dennis Marsh is sure to delight audiences, while semi-retired Brendan Dugan, NZ's 1987 Entertainer of the Year, still loves taking the stage. The festival is a great chance to experience the strongest voices in the New Zealand Country Music scene and beyond. There's open mic sessions, singalongs, and more, so bring the kids for some good ol' fashioned country fun!
