"Now back in the bay!"

Event Background

In the year 2000 Wayne and Sandy Tapson along with Bill and Jocelyn Dolden decided to organise a Country Music Festival to raise funds for a charitable cause in Hawke's Bay.

They held it at the Clifton Motor Camp at the base of Cape Kidnappers so therefore it was called the Kidnappers Country Music Festival in 2000. It was there for two years and then we moved it to a Christian camp at Haumoana in 2002 still very close to Cape Kidnappers as the festival numbers grew. Due to the fact that we were getting a lot more support and especially from the motorhomers meant that we were only there for three years and had to move on again.

We were also supported by a lot of out-of-towners so the next year we move on to Marton under the title of Central Country Music Festival which was 2006. It later became the Marton Country Music Festival. In 2007 we went to Wainuiomata Scouts venue at Brooklands. Kidnappers hosted both of Marton and Wainuiomata. In 2008 Kidnappers Festival came back to Hawke's Bay and was held at the Hukarere Girls College in Eskdale to help raise funds to put up their Chapel. Then to the Hawke's Bay Racing Centre in Prospect road Hastings in 2009- 2012. The last seven years we have hosted the festivals in the the Wairarapa which was three at Claveville Showgrounds Carterton and then four at the Tauherenikau Racing Centre in Featherston which were years 2013-2019.

All these festivals have been to raise money for different charities which has been quite a considerable sum. Now the festival has come home to the bay. We are coming back to the bay again to stay so we look forward to seeing you all again to have a fun filled weekend, just like all our other ones. This festival is special not only are we back in the Bay but it is our 21st. There is plenty of parking for motorhomes and caravans. Looking forward to hearing all those talented musical motorhomers and caravanners campers and the public. You don't have to be a member of a Country Music Club, anybody can get up and perform - that is what our festivals are all about!


  • $50.00 p/p for the whole weekend
  • Friday: $20.00 - from 2.00pm to 10.00pm
  • Saturday: $40.00 - from 10.00am - 10.00pm
  • Sunday: $20.00 - from 10.00am to 3.00pm
  • 12 - 17 years half price and under 12 free.

We look forward to parking up your motorhomes and caravans coming along to have fun for an enjoyable weekend full of wonderful country music - knowing that all proceeds are going to a worthy cause so those less fortunate will benefit.

Where do I report to?

Entrance to the racing centre is on Prospect Road via Market Street South - will be clearly signposted.

When can I arrive and when do I have to leave?

Park up from lunch time Thursday the 9th of January and must leave by 10am on Monday the 13th of January.

How much does it cost?

Park up for the weekend for $5.00 per motorhome/caravan per night. There are a few powered sites which will be reserved for people with medical requirements.

Can I bring my pets?

Pets are allowed in the parking area, but not in the festival area please. All pets are their owner’s responsibility. When registering please advise if you have a small pet only.

Your tickets will be sent to you to save the rush at the gate or you can pick them up when you arrive. Tickets can also be scanned to your email. Internet banking is available for those who want to get their tickets before the festival - they make fantastic Christmas gifts!
