Laser Plumbing & Electrical Hampton Downs 500 2017
The Laser Plumbing & Electrical Hampton Downs 500 will take place over the weekend of October 28/29.
Last year’s 101 lap race was a major hit with competitors and fans alike but this year Australian GT Management have added a 100km to the race length, making it a 500km battle! This has sent teams back to the drawing board to work on a strategy that will see them have to pit three times and manage fuel differently. The change will certainly give spectators a whole lot more to look forward to.
“The 101 brand has been a huge success but this year we’re going bigger and better with the New Zealand 1001,” says Quinn. “We’ve been doing the 101 at Highlands for four years now so the teams have got used to the strategy. I like to keep moving the bar and I like to challenge people and this will certainly shake things up in the Australian GT Championship.”
“The new format will add roughly 20 laps to each race which may not sound a lot but it means there will be a third pitstop and two driver changes which will mean a change in strategy for the teams. It will also have implications for tyres and fuel. It will be a true endurance test.”
GT cars are built to do 24 hour endurance races, so the new race distances will not present any issues around reliability.
Some great support categories. including the popular Central Muscle Cars, will take to the track between the AGT sessions and there will be a cool family zone, exhibits, a show n shine and some great hospitality options. As always the pits will be open to the public throughout the event. At no other motor racing event can you get closer to the action!
