"A great mix of fantastic international and local artists!"

33 years ago, Ferg Mitchell started the Hoedowns in the Waitaki Valley starting in the closed down Haka Hotel and moved it to the Otematata Hotel for 3 years after the Hakataramea Hotel closed. We moved to Omarama for 2 years but have outgrown the accommodation crisis, so we moved our 2012 Hoedown to CROMWELL.

Each year it has got bigger and bigger with a record crowd of 900 plus people attending in 2018 with over 90 artists singing the weekend away with more than 40 recording artists as well coming from all over NZ.

Featured Artists

Kevin Greaves - Kylie Austin - Bruce & Lanae Hill - Reg McTaggart - Josh Keating - Jaydin Shingleton (Overall Winner NZ Gold Guitars 2019).

This year we have the 2019 NZ overall Gold Guitar winner Jaydin Shingleton who was a hit with everyone in 2014 at our Hoedown then only 14-15 years old and he come back again in 2017 and he said he would be back, and he is coming back again this year. This guy has come a long way since then and we are privileged to have him back again this year.  Also, we have Kevin Greaves and Kylie Austin from the far North both who have been touring the States in the past couple of months so we should have a great showcase.

Lanae and Bruce Hill, Reg McTaggart, and young 14-year-old Josh Keating, Past Gold Guitar winner last year with the Freeze your Bits off Section and also won 2018 Junior New Zealand Country Entertainer of the year They are all top NZ entertainers so our line-up for the showcase is looking excellent.

More about the event

We started getting the Motor Homers attending about 15 years ago and with parking plentiful at the Cromwell racecourse, as it is an ideal venue now. Word of mouth has bought more and more Motor homes to it and last year a record number of nearly 300 motor homers plus attended the event last year.

Out of towners e.g - motorhomers can come a week earlier if they wish. They can stay on after the hoedown if they wish to have a look around our neck of the woods and maybe look around our new motorsport park. See www.highlands.co.nz for what’s coming up. Note; No racing the weekend after our event this year.

Cromwell businesses and people are all fully behind us with specials in the shops, donations for raffles and assistance with manpower over the entire weekend.

Should anyone wish to get their business or name out there and want to sponsor an artist or assist in any way please do not hesitate to contact one of our members. We would dearly love your support.

Any enquiries please do not hesitate to contact organisers/sponsors of the Hoedown, Lynette or Mike Hedges on 03 445 4070 home; or C/P 027 243 8655.
