Auckland Folk Festival 2018
The Auckland Folk Festival runs over the three days of Auckland Anniversary Weekend in late January. In 2018 this will be Friday January 26th until Sunday 28th . You will find a wide range of folk music, from contemporary through bluegrass, Irish and traditional. Guest artists are invited from all over the world, with both local and international musicians offering workshops and participating in all night jam sessions.
We recommend you bring your motorhome or caravan and camp up for the whole weekend as some of the magical moments of the Festival occur after the programme ends.

Now into its fifth decade, the Auckland Folk festival is a venerable institution, first conceived and created by the folk and traditional music and dance clubs of Auckland in the 1970’s. For the past 25 years, the festival has been based at the Kumeu Showgrounds in West Auckland, where the music venues are spread over gently rolling paddocks and campers meet up with old friends and musical comrades-at-arms to play and dance long into the night.
The festival runs over the three days of the Auckland Anniversary weekend in late January, starting on the Friday evening and finishing with sessions and ceilidhs into the small hours of Monday morning. The music stages are all within large marquees, with great sound quality and a full programme , providing something for everyone at all times. Saturday and Sunday evenings feature concerts by the principal artists on the main stage.
Guest artists are invited from all over the world to bring creativity and colour to the festival. The festival blends internationally renowned acts with up and coming local bands to weave a fascinating musical landscape and we are committed to taking the culture forward by exploring new genres within “modern traditional” music and dance.
