27th Annual Battle of the Streets 2018

Parking: Paeroa West Rugby Club, Event: STATE HIGHWAY 2 Paeroa Sunday, 18 February '18

Running now for over 25 years, the Battle of the Streets team are getting organised for the 2018 race! Held annually with all the precision and planning of a military operation, the circuit is set up under the cover of darkness with SH2 being shut down around 4am.

One of only two road races held in the North Island, you literally can’t get closer to that action anywhere in New Zealand! The Battle of the Streets is a not to be missed event for lovers of motorbikes, speed and excitement!

The 1.52km circuit has become known as the "Hacksaw" owing to its shape. It has provided a testing circuit on which riders reach speeds of 280kph and sidecars close to 220kph along the main straight.

The Trust works tirelessly each year to improve safety at the circuit, and after consultation with MNZ and members of the industry; plastic barriers have been placed on the circuit side of the deer fencing on the main straight as an added layer of protection for the public. On race day there are some 350 volunteers involved.

Classes running throughout the day include; Formula Paeroa & F2, Jnr & Senior classics, Motards, Formula & Classic sidecars, Superlites, Post Classic Pre ’82 & ‘89 and Bears. The penultimate race of the day is the King of the Streets, with the 25 fastest bikes and riders slogging it out over 10 laps to claim the title of King of the Streets.

There’s also plenty to keep the kids entertained… it’s a great day out!

Gates open at 6.30am, make sure you get here nice and early for the best views of The Hacksaw. We’re looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday 18th February.
